Tragic Collision Claims Lives in Robstown: A Community in Mourning

A family outing ended in tragedy on January 15 when a car crash in Robstown resulted in the deaths of a father and two of his young children. The incident occurred shortly after the family left a livestock show carnival, turning an otherwise ordinary evening into a devastating loss for the community.

The Incident

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 77. Randy Rubio, 35, of Corpus Christi, was driving southbound in a 2005 Buick Rendezvous with his three children, ages 12, 5, and 4.

At the same time, a Ford Ranger driven by 24-year-old Joshua Galvan was traveling westbound on County Road 36. Investigators report that Galvan failed to stop at a posted stop sign, resulting in a collision with Rubio’s vehicle. Both vehicles left the roadway following the impact.

Rubio and two of his children died from injuries sustained in the crash. The third child survived and was transported for medical care.

Arrest and Charges

Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Galvan, charging him with three counts of manslaughter. After receiving medical treatment at Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital, Galvan was taken into custody and booked into the Nueces County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Community Impact

The loss has had a profound effect on Robstown, where residents have gathered to support the surviving family members and honor the victims. Memorials and community-organized efforts have emerged in the days following the crash, including fundraising initiatives to assist with funeral expenses.

Local residents describe the incident as a significant loss for the area, noting that events involving children resonate deeply in close-knit communities.

Safety Considerations

The crash has renewed attention on traffic safety, particularly at rural intersections where stop signs and visibility play a critical role. Officials emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic controls and remaining alert, especially during evening hours when visibility may be reduced.

Transportation safety advocates note that failure to stop at intersections continues to be a contributing factor in serious and fatal crashes across the state.

Looking Ahead

As Robstown continues to mourn, community members and local leaders are reflecting on ways to promote safer driving practices and reduce the risk of similar incidents. Efforts may include increased public awareness, roadway evaluations, and education focused on preventing avoidable collisions.

The deaths of Randy Rubio and his children serve as a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be changed and how critical roadway safety is for families and communities alike
